Frequently asked questions
Clear answers about privacy, encryption, signing in, and how Armory Atlas protects your data.
Security & Privacy
- How is my data protected?
- All data is encrypted on your device using a Master Encryption Key (MEK) derived from your Master Password. We never receive or store your raw data — only opaque encrypted blobs. Even if our servers are breached, the data would remain unreadable without your MEK.
- What encryption algorithms are used?
- Our design uses modern, widely-accepted primitives: a memory-hard KDF (Argon2) for deriving the MEK, and AES-256-GCM for authenticated encryption of data. Keys are stored in platform secure storage (Keychain / Keystore) when biometrics are enabled.
- Can you recover my data if I forget my password?
- No. Because we follow a zero-knowledge model, we cannot decrypt your data without your Master Password or Recovery Key. During onboarding you receive a 24-word Recovery Key — store it safely. If both are lost, data cannot be recovered.
Accounts & Sign-in
- Can I sign in with Google?
- Yes — we support Google Sign-In for convenient authentication. Google handles authentication, but encryption is still controlled by a separate Master Password you create. The Master Password is used only for client-side encryption and is never shared with Google or our servers.
- If I use Google Sign-In, do you still require a Master Password?
- Yes. Google simplifies authentication, but to preserve the zero-knowledge model you must create a Master Password to derive your MEK. This separation keeps your data unreadable by the server or any third party.
PWA & Offline
- Is the app installable?
- Yes. Armory Atlas is a Progressive Web App (PWA). You can install it to your home screen for a native-like experience. The site includes a web manifest and a service worker to support offline usage.
- Will the app work offline?
- Yes. The app is fully functional offline for your locally stored data. Sync operations (if enabled) will resume automatically when you're back online.
Features & Usage
- How does the Travel Co‑Pilot protect me when traveling?
- The Travel Co‑Pilot cross-references your logged firearms, magazines, and ammunition against a structured database of state laws. For any route, it creates a plain-language checklist describing how to legally transport or stow firearms through each state on your trip.
- Can I backup my data to the cloud?
- Yes — cloud backup is an optional premium feature. Backups are encrypted on-device with your MEK before upload; the server stores only encrypted blobs and cannot read your data.
- Is there a limit on the number of firearms I can log?
- The free tier may limit the number of items; premium (Atlas Tier) removes limits and unlocks route analysis and encrypted cloud sync.
